Artist's Comments Finally updated as promised! I had a lot of fun doing this - my idea was to come up with a gothic kimono. Pose and general look inspired by an image of Princess Ai that can me seen just before the little extra story in the first volume. Little bit of info for those who haven't read it: story is utter C R A P (I have all three and I haven't been able to bring myself to read more than four pages yet) however, the outfits Ai wears border on sheer genius. The piece was also inspired by the title of one of my favourite operas, Madame Butterfly, and so I named the piece after it (the opera).  I had a bit of a background story in mind while drawing this. In Asian folklore, butterflies symbolize prosperity. I decided this lovely young lady is some kind of good witch or spirit of good fortune. She's sitting in a wishing tree using a bit of magic to make the smoke turn into butterflies, which are picking up the slips of paper on which people have written their wishes and flying off to fulfill them.
